Goodbye To One Of The Last Decent Live Music Venues in Brisbane

We’re steering away a little from our usual content with this post, but it’s an important one which I’m sure all Brisbane indie-lovers will appreciate. Ric’s Bar, one of the stalwart live music venues, closed down on Sunday night. Boooooo! Actually, it’s been bought out which is a fate far worse because, if local forums are to be believed, neighbouring bar RGs have taken on the lease . Noooooo! RGs is the antithesis of Rics. They play the worst techno and R&B. And I don’t want to make disparraging remarks about the patrons but their behaviour is often less than savoury, shall we say.

God, I had so many good times at Rics in my younger years, especially when Abby used to host her Love & Roxy electro/clash nights. The place was dingy but it had character. The staff were fun, the drinks were cheap, and everybody knew how to have a good time (sans violence, unlike most other bars in the Valley). What’s happening to our live music venues? First they tore down Festival Hall to build apartments, The Arena seems to have died a slow death and now we say goodbye to Rics. Thank god for The Zoo. It may be 10am in the morning but I say let’s have a farewell toast to one of the last great live music venues in Brisbane.
