Richard Retrospective

Richard Retrospective

Ok, while we’re not going to get all sentimental at the news of Richard Bailey’s passing, we kind of feel there’s a certain amount of respect and kudos due to the man. Richard Bailey was a really big deal as far as Australian photographers go. His romantic and rebellious sensibility, and beautiful sense of light, was an influence for many of the photographers we’ve worked with. It’s not that often a photographer can claim a 30 year working relationship with Vogue. And despite his success internationally, working with celebrities and supermodels, Richard kept his heart in Australia.

Chih-Han Hsu

Chih-Han Hsu

I really like a style of photography that is poetic and real and familiar, like you've chanced upon a private moment. It's very voyeuristic, I know, but it also gives a sense of intimacy. When I look at some of the work of local Brisbane photographer, Chih-Han Hsu that's the kind of feeling I get.

Beige & Blue

Beige & Blue

Anna MacKenzie, a young photographer from Melbourne, got in contact with us last month. She’s currently in her final year of commercial photography at RMIT and submitted this editorial. We absolutely love her work. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly what appeals but I recognise something very honest in her ideas. She is certainly someone we’ll keep our eye on. I’d like to point out Anna’s co-collaborator in this story is Estelle Deve, someone we’ve mentioned previously on our Canvas blog.

Wool Me, Knit Me

Wool Me, Knit Me

When I look at this story, shot by Krzysztof Wyzynski, I immediately connect it to fashion eccentric Anna Piaggi. Maybe it’s the balls of wool worn as a crown. Maybe it’s the collision of colour and mix of dramatic prints. Maybe it’s the pencil ringed eyes. Either way I find it really inspiring, both editorially and sartorially.

Tina Tahir

Tina Tahir lives and works in London. Using mixed media to create images, with photography as the primary focus, Tina’s work is both narrative and seductive. Frequently referencing the female form as a fetishistic object of desire, her work has been featured in galleries and publications throughout Britain and Europe.
