Splendour in the Winter

No doubt you’re all aware of the just-released Splendour In The Grass lineup. There have been some big acts to grace the Grass stage in previous years but this year’s lineup is a killer and kind of harks back to the lineups of its original days. Remember PJ Harvey belting it out on stage wearing that brighter-than-sunshine jumpsuit? And who could forget Coldplay’s fervent debut in Oz, serenading the crowd with Yellow. This was well before they turned into a celebrity stadium rock band. Given Splendour’s new stomping ground in Woodford, which caters for a bigger crowd, the lineup is its most ambitious yet and sees a great mix of rock (B.R.M.C, The Mess Hall, Ash), pop (Grizzly Bear, Scissor Sisters, The Temper Trap), folk (Laura Marling, Kate Nash) and dance (Passion Pit, Hot Chip). With just over a week until tickets go on sale, the organisers of Splendour have come up with a cross-country incentive to win a double pass to the event and camping passes: they’ll be hiding tickets at several locations around Australia. To be fair, a series of clues will be released to help locate their hiding place. Perhaps a day of orienteering sounds like a hassle but it might be an easier option than spending the morning screaming profanities at your computer, hitting the refresh button.
