Tour De Force

I read a wonderful article in The Australian last week, written by the effervescent Clare Press, about the return of flamboyant headwear. Isabella Blow and Anna Piaggi have both been two very fashion forward ladies who took a surrealist headtrip but for the most part it’s a fashion accessory that has largely been ignored. But hats and headbands are becoming de rigeur amongst the fashion set.

Indeed headwear is not an easy issue, and to pull off the right image it is essential to opt for the right color, shape and fabric. Only now have I begun to feel completely comfortable wearing a hat. I started off slowly with basic shapes, like a boater, bowler and pillbox. Then I progressed to wearing necklaces as hair pieces, and embellishing skull caps with flowers and buttons. As my confidence grew, so did the desire to wear dramatic styles, like these fashion-meets-art pieces from Tour De Force.

Camille Roman, designer and founder of Tour De Force graduated from Womenswear at Central St. Martins, and gained studio experience at Lanvin, Zac Posen and Johnny Loves Rosie before launching her own range of luxury accessories and womenswear. Creating couture styles has been something ingrained in Camilla since childhood, who has a self described style that mixes glamour with abstraction. The oversized nature of her designs really works with my own personal mantra of the bigger the better.
