We would like to introduce the new summer collection from accessory and leather goods designer Natalia Brilli. Quick history-to-date, as this is a debut post on Canvas for Ms. Brilli: Belgian-born, Paris-based, started work in set and costume design before collaborations with fashion designers, most notably for Olivier Theyskens/Rochas.
When you look at her previous collections you note immediately there’s a dark side to her work that is both gothic and romantic, with Victorian era aesthetics and Argento references, although they are more modern than macabre. This collection continues with that aesthetic but it is much lighter in tone, perhaps because of the summer-influenced colour palette. Yes, there’s an obvious functionality to her work, but it really focuses on form. There is no superfluous design, each piece quite minimalist in shape, and it’s her use of texture that gives it an edge (she is exceptional at crafting leather). Her handmade accessories often look serious but are underlined with humour, noted in this collection by her “Nolex” watch. Another post to follow soon on her range of handbags.
