We did a post on Estelle Dévé’s debut jewellery collection only a few months back. At the time of the post Estelle had yet to find a Brisbane stockist so I was surprised to see local boutique Chasing Bow take on the bulk of the range. Generally speaking, the owners of Chasing Bow tend to take on designers that, while cool, have more of a commercial approach to fashion but with the addition of Deve’s designs I began to think their buying direction had taken a turn. Unfortunately they’re not taking on Estelle’s new collection, Lunar Mare, which is disappointing because I think this is by far an edgier range.
Estelle’s world is one in which opposites happily coexist. Science fiction fantasy meets art deco with a subtle tribal influence to bring an inspired range of translucent intimates. It’s obvious this collection has an entirely different personality to its predecessor, one which seems to be motivated by an enthusiasm for learning. And by her own admission, it’s a more honest approach in aesthetic. For J.D With Love…, was designed almost by trial and error, learning with each piece made. Delving into deep space brings an unorthodox brand of sophistication where form, material and colour are playfully reflected in an ode to extraterrestrial design.
