Anyone who was in Melbourne recently for the Fashion Festival would or should have been aware of a neat little jewellery sideshow presented by the Glitzern girls. Glitzern is one of those must-go-to shopping destinations whenever you’re in town because the store’s stock of accessories is like a metaphor for the city. There you’ll find an eclectic mix of Australian art jewellers, costume ranges and rare vintage pieces. The more you search, the more you find. And it was upon hearing of Glitzern’s Earring Festival that we came across the over-the-top designs of Lia T.
With Lia T’s designs too much is never enough. Think bright colours, mock-croc and 80s influence and you’ll start to have an inkling of Lia’s design aesthetic. With previous collections she’s headed into the jungle with leopard print and fake gems, and to the depths of the sea to discover gold and bronze. In what has become an almost signature quirky style, a recent collaboration with Penthouse Mouse sees a mix of faux leathers and polished metals in a range of oversized button earrings and cocktail rings. It’s the kind of collection that would sit well on Sally Spectra, a comment that no doubt will serve as a compliment to Lia.
