We met one half of the design duo Material By Product, Susan Dimasi, during a short trip to Brisbane a year or so ago. What we thought was going to be, at best, an hour-long meeting turned into a three-hour conversation. We knew little about the core of the label prior to our meeting but after talking with Susan and Megan Travers (her PR rep) we were completely enamoured by the people, including co-designer Chantal Kirby, as much as the designs. The name is perhaps not widely recognised within Australia, with the label having found much greater success within the European market (most notably Berlin, Paris and Barcelona), but is slowly starting to find its way into the more directional boutiques across the country. Material By Product have a strong fashion language that translates into their designs via strong tailoring and distinct design detail, as well as innovative approaches to manufacturing.
