LF Markey Mark II

As a follow up to Friday’s celebratory post on the news of LF Markey’s new online store, we now present to you the new winter collection.

Louise came to attention in 2008 as a finalist for the Fashion Fringe prize and her point in popularity was proven at a time in fashion when consumers were shying away against the excess and extreme turnover of trends. Rather, Louise focused on making basics must-have items, designing pieces that personified luxury through simplicity so that the finishing and finesse of the end design stands for something more desirable. Her trick was in the technique.

This season marks a change in tact. Not necessarily a departure from her original aesthetic but a broadening of influence and approach. There are certain things one can expect from an LF Markey collection: a boldness in colour, usually something akin to a Pantone colour book, and a simplicity of silhouette. Both are still quite definitely apparent. But it’s interesting to see her play on volume, showing reference to Victorian period dress, as well her use as sunray pleating. Together they conjure up a style that could be inherently feminine but it’s almost the opposite. Louise’s look book presents someone who dresses a little tougher, kind of gritty, who’s prepared to work the pieces into something more accessible and personal. From the metallic organza party dresses to black off-the-shoulder polar fleece, this collection is Louise’s fullest and richest to date.
