Flying The Patriotic Flag

It’s a major coup when a young Australian designer is asked to show on an international stage. Josh Goot has been showing at London for the past few seasons and has sort of made it his runway home-away-from-home. This is the first time we’ve put Josh on our blog and I have to say I’m feeling his summer vibe.

Tim Blanks wasn’t too kind, quoting the “lack of depth and breadth”, but au contraire we say. The color palette, with its bright acidic tones seemed to reference the pop art movement of the sixties. The mis-matched prints and block colours were quite refreshing and struck a chord with me personally. Obvious trend details in the shoulders gave it a subtle eighties feel which, unfortunately, looked a little boxy and perhaps not the most flattering but it’s something slightly more wearable than what we’ve seen from certain luxury labels in seasons past.

As a whole it seemed to be an evolution from his last summer collection, where watercolour prints left a bright an optimistic impression, and the winter season past where minimalist, tailored  silhouettes gave way to geometric, contoured lines. Modern attitude, ease and simplicity is the best way to sum up Goot’s aesthetic. Look, it’s not groundbreaking fashion but it’s good. Bloody good. And let’s face it, locally speaking, he’s the king of body con dressing and wardrobe essentials.
