Flying the Local Flag

In a follow up to our fashion week, the next couple of posts will sing the praises of our friends in Brisbane.  This one is dedicated to George Wu, one of the sweetest people working in the industry. Don’t be fooled by his friendly smile though, he has such a strong work ethic that translates technically into his designs where versatility in wear becomes a key feature.  Each season the bar is set high; the construction of each garment is a self-defining challenge.

This collection is steeped in historical references (just read the style names for garments) that borrow from the renaissance and Paleolithic era.  We see a return to the magenta tone that was used in his A Maze summer collection a few years back, as well as the George Wu signature stamp of black and white, with some mushroom and gunmetal grey to soften the look.  I have already created a list of favourites from the collection: the Kulna dress, Brava shorts and Shanidar top (because I can’t resist a bow) but I’ve included a some images from the lookbook below so I’ll let them do the talking.

I would also like to thank Alice Moore at Elysee Publicity for organising our interview with George.  Fashion week is a bit of a nightmare for publicists and George is a busy man but it all came together beautifully.  Plus, she’s another local girl so we’re proud to do a shout out.
