Abe’s Penny

Abe’s Penny

This art and literature serial was created by sisters Tess and Anna Knoebel. Abe’s Penny, a micro-magazine, is printed on postcards; subscribers receive one postcard each week for a month. Each volume is curated by a different artist and writer but at the end of the month the four postcards put together tell a story. It’s wonderful, in contrast to modern times where communication is severed to abbreviated numbers and letters, to look forward to something that is tangible and engaging, and encourages a dialogue. Whilst we have no personal connection to the writer or artist there is a real sense of intimacy and anticipation delivered with each postcard.

There’s not a lot to find yet about Dean but b store has described his work as’ make shift’, with his designs unfolding and often having an unfussy aesthetic.  Dean creates pieces that on the surface look ordinary but by adding new materials he puts them in an unfamiliar context.

Thomas Allen

Thomas Allen

Fans of Canadian band Born Ruffians may recognise the distinctive nostalgic cut and fold style of Thomas Allen. His work features old covers from paperback novels, deconstructed to give a pulp-fiction peculiarity. Controlling the lighting, perspective and focus Allen creates rich multi-dimensional scenes that celebrate the tension and dynamics of stage drama.
