Thai Takeover
Kloset is the kind of fashion that rivals fellow Thai contemporaries Sretsis in the cute stakes. Similar in style, the label was born out of frustration and despair due to a lack in (Thai) fashion that focused on specialised techniques. And it's the details that make Kloset's clothes beautiful.

Sweet As Sugar
There's always something sweet about a Sretsis collection. Just like there's also something stout. Remeber that "what are girls made of" nursery rhyme? That's Sretsis. Except less dainty. A design yin and yang, if you like. Each collection is a struggle between romance and rebellion. A Sretsis girl looks as though she's taken a trip on the loveboat, but beware if the boy breaks breaks her heart.

Quixotic
Two years ago Canvas wrote a feature on four fashion graduates of Sydney's Fashion Design Studio. Aptly titled The Four Boys, it was felt that these four designers forced a coming of age in Australian fashion. Two of the four designers, Dion Lee and Christopher Esber, are being applauded for ideas that are pushing Australian fashion in a new direction. And now another of the four, the charismatic Spencer Webber and his label Phos Phoro, is creating a new wave of excitement.

More To Come
Even though Fashion Week wrapped up Friday we’ve still got a lot to say for Australian fashion. There’s only so much one can fit into a week, especially given all the after-show parties. So over the coming weeks, in the lead up to our next issue, we’re going to be talking tons more on some young and exciting designers. So stay tuned, there’s plenty more to come.

Merci, Beau Coops!
When it comes to our local footwear industry, there's a proliferation of mid-market brands that copy and cater to the fast fashion market. Boring! But what about high-end? Fortunately a new label, Beau Coops, is proving to be a breath of fresh and fashionable air for shoe lovers. And not since Terry Biviano's bermuda heels has an Australian footwear label garnered so much attention.

Scratch My Back & I’ll Bite Your Hand
Last time we spoke of Camille Roman's Tour De Force we were discussing the revival of headwear, of people's new-found interest in adding another layer of accessories as adornment to an outfit. Well Tour De Force is having a revival of sorts too, by adding another element to its design repertoire. Not content with just the creation of colourful, sculptural headwear, Camille has shifted focus to include womenswear as well.

Adolescent Androgyny
We've been looking to the west with fashion a lot lately, with designers like Garth Cook and Carly Hunter, as well as fashion photographer Traianos Pakioufakis, but now we're turning our attention to the east. Not too far east, just to New Zealand.

Amorphous Geometrics
This tough-talking title, Amorphous Geometrics, is the collection name for relative fashion new-comer Garth Cook. Cook, the highlight of was another designer to make the leap from the west for a Fashion Week debut, and was the clear standout of Friday's New Gen group show. The New Gen show has been the launch pad for Australia's fashion illumni, like Akira and Tsubi, and it's certain to prove the same for Cook. Didn't we say Perth's fashion scene was having a renaissance of sorts?

Optic
Sometimes the simplest of things can speak volumes. In an otherwise lacklustre last day of shows, Jade Sarita's sublime summer collection as Arnsdorf spoke of maturity and an uncompromising vision of modern minimalism. It's super chic and something completely unexpected, because Arnsdorf has always given us that girl with an i-don't-care kind of attitude. As if her style was accidental. But this season Arnsdorf's girl has grown up.
