Where The Wild Things Are

Where The Wild Things Are

As soon as the first trailer was released for this movie blogs everywhere went ga-ga. Countdown’s on for the October 16 release. It’s a great book and we’re really excited and it’s going to be directed by one of our favourites (Spike Jonze) but we’re far more interested in the soundtrack. Do we even need to explain why? Karen O, who really needs no introduction, has teamed up with her “kids” to match the music to the movie. So this list of kids includes Bradford Cox, Aaron Hemphill and Greg Kurstin, among a long list of other musical greats. Can’t wait hear. Can’t wait to see it.

Meet Me At The Pool At Midnight

Meet Me At The Pool At Midnight

Like all people with a fondness for fashion, I often have crazy self-styling moments where I need to find something very specific.

Blonde Venus

Blonde Venus

This is the new season from Brass. Inspired by 30s film star Marlene Dietrich, jungle themes and showgirls, the designs are defined by angular, geometric shapes and the palette is dominated by black. When I took in that first look shown here I instinctively felt it was something straight out of New York. The shapes and on-trend cropping lend it a familiar, minimalist aesthetic that would sit well on the racks of Oak.

Konstantina

Konstantina

There are many things I love about living in Brisbane. Chuck’s coffees at U Gees. The great live music scene. Shopping for shoes at Gallery. But when you hear of great Australian labels, like Konstantina Mittas, having public sales in private studios it really makes you think about a permanent move across the border. It would be wonderful to flit off to Sydney for the three days (September 8-11) to spend some cash but my life doesn’t quite work like that. So instead I implore you all, on my behalf, to make good use of this sample sale and continue to stimulate this economy! If you need directions, I’d ask the girls at Undergroup.

Rethinking Eccentricity

Rethinking Eccentricity

Still on the topic of characters in fashion, I had a wonderful conversation with filmmaker Meghan Carlsen which I have edited for this post.
