The Lake And The Stars
It pains me to say this so publicly but I find it very difficult to find lingerie. I don't want slutty or too cute. I've got no boobs, no hips. I can't do sexy.

Juan Francisco Casas
Look closely at these artworks by Juan Francisco Casas. They have been drawn by hand with a ballpoint pen.

Malmo
We blogged a few days ago on Australian denim label Otto. When we spoke about the brand's Swedish heritage what we failed to mention was the involvement of Fredrik Jonsson. Those who swore by the quaint aesthetic and sharp tailoring of Hem and Haw will recognise the name. Hem and Haw are no longer but Fredrik Jonsson, the clever designer that captured men's dandy hearts, has returned with a new label, Malmo.

Otto
You’ve heard me say in prior posts how rare it is to see me in a tee. I have to confess to what some may consider a fashion faux pas. The other item that most accept as a wardrobe staple, a good ‘ol pair of classic denim jeans, has also proved elusive in my style repertoire. Until now. The girls at Undergroup popped this in my inbox early in the week, hot off the press! It’s a new label, Otto, devoted exclusively to denim. With an aesthetic that mixes Swedish heritage with an Australian sensibility it’s no wonder I’m starting to come around to the idea of a more casual attire. Their cuts are quite classic in nature, with minimal branding and a focus on designing forward pieces with precision detailing.

Vivian Girls
One of our favourite new bands, garage-girl group Vivian Girls, are making their way to our city. They’ll be guests of honour at Spring Tones in late September and will play the more intimate clubs on their six-date tour. If you haven’t heard of these girls they’re what you must. Their debut album is one of the shortest, sharpest albums you will hear. Ten songs, only 25 minutes. A kind of burst of surf-punk frenzy. For more on their Australian tour talk to the guys at Mistletone Records.

Kate Cusack
For those that pay attention to fashion's direction season to season, exposed zippers are a massive seasonal trend. How fitting then to come across a designer who has manipulated, deconstructed and intricately patterned zippers into beautiful pieces of adornment, like wearing a mini-sculpture on your body.

Rouse Phillips
This is a first for Canvas. Never before have we featured a textile designer. I suppose we've been concerned with the end product, rather than the beginning stages of a design.

Beside Ourselves
I can remember the first time I came across Gary Bigeni. It was seven years ago. I was young and impressionable and in love with Blonde Venus. Gary had just graduated from Sydney Tech.

Christmas In July
We always keep tabs on our friend Sara Phillips. As our readers would recognise, it’s a name that crops ups every so often in our blog. Low-and-behold our timing was right this month because Sara has just opened an online boutique. Yay! So now it’s time to start acting nice so you can put together your wish list for Santa/Sara. Expect her summer collection, Ultrasound (which was one our picks from RAFW), to be available online early August.
